Rebecca / Rebekah from the Bible

Some believe that the name Haifa derives from the combination of the words “Hof” (meaning coast/shore) and “Yafé” (meaning beautiful), while others speculate that it is an acronym for a “comfortable seat.” To some extent, both interpretations hold true. Situated on Mount Carmel, Haifa is embraced by the Mediterranean Sea on two sides.

The climate in Haifa is humid yet pleasant, and the city exudes a welcoming atmosphere. It is home to a diverse population including Jews, Christian Arabs, Muslim Arabs, and the Druze Community in the suburbs. Moreover, the Ahmedi sect, who sought refuge from Iran, coexist peacefully with the Jewish population, free from historical persecution.

In Israel, there is a saying that Jerusalem prays, Tel-Aviv feasts, and Haifa works. While this saying captures an aspect of Haifa's industrious spirit, it falls short of the full picture. Haifa is home to more than ten messianic congregations, Shavei Tzion being one of them, fostering harmonious relationships among Messianic Jews, Arab Christians, and others. Interactions between different communities in Haifa are generally positive.

Returning to the prophetic aspect, as mentioned in an earlier article, there is a prophecy by Moses regarding Zebulun and Issachar, the tribes whose territories encompass Haifa and its environs. Moses proclaimed about Zebulun: “Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, and you, Issachar, in your tents. They will summon peoples to the mountain and there offer the sacrifices of the righteous; they will feast on the abundance of the seas, on the treasures hidden in the sand” (Deuteronomy 33:18-19).

According to biblical interpretation, joy and celebration stem from divine revelation and adherence to righteous paths. Tents symbolize devotion to the Creator and His teachings, as exemplified by Jacob, who was known as a man of Tents for his understanding of God's ways. Moses's prophecy highlights Issachar's commitment to righteousness and the ensuing blessings from the Creator.

Haifa's development extends beyond its spiritual significance. Today, the city boasts highly advanced Hi-Tech Companies in its industrial zones, contributing significantly to the country's prosperity. With ports in Haifa and Ashdod serving as Israel's sea gates, the city plays a crucial role in the nation's economic landscape.

The establishment of the “Shavei Tzion” (“Return to Zion”) Congregation initially faced challenges from organizations opposing believers in Yeshua Messiah. Despite these difficulties, Haifa remains inclusive of diverse beliefs. Over the years, the Congregation has undertaken various humanitarian initiatives, aiding the elderly, supporting those in need, promoting Aliyah (Jewish immigration), and assisting new immigrants to integrate into Israeli life.

Operating within the Congregation is an Academy of Arts providing high-quality Music and Fine Arts education to children. Through seminars, workshops, and cultural events, the Congregation enriches the community. Visitors are welcome to attend Shabbat Services and stay at the Congregation's Guest House, accommodating small groups.

With warm regards,
